FEATURE | Embroidered Velvet Bag

Velvet has been my ultimate favourite material last year and I really don’t plan on stopping my girly craze for 2017. Luckily the amazing Mollie Makes magazine shares my passion for this soft and lush style and we collaborated on this embroidered Velvet Pouch.

This blush pink velvet was a treat to work with, my sewing machine just flew through the fabric and turning it into this pouch-like bag was so much fun to do! Complete with a tassel and a hand embroidered detail, it felt like I could go back to the roaring twenties sporting this cutie :)
And even though it has that vintage feel to it, it somehow goes with anything! (see me wearing jeans in the photo).

The DIY project includes how to make the festive paper garlands you see in the background and tips on how to make your own photo booth backdrop. And you can pose by yourself like I did, by I bet that it is a lot more fun to share your homemade photo booth with your friends!

It is not a secret that I am a big fan of Christmas crafts. I mean: who doesn’t love to incorporate twinkle lights, gold, baubles, and many more kitschy items into fun DIY projects?! So when I was asked by the amazing Mollie Makes magazine to collaborate for the special Christmas issue, I counldn’t be more excited!

You will find five(!) new projects that I made in this special issue: I tried the paint dipping technique for a Paint dipped baubles project. You can smell amazing this Christmas with my Lavender Body Scrub recipe, I collected small twigs on a hike and turned them into a Twig Garland. And I made small paper bags and used them for a fun alternative Advent Calendar. And last but not least I found a great way to upcycle old glasses and cups and repurposed them into Christmas Candles!

Besides the tutorials that I made for this issue, there are a total of 110 fun projects and ideas included!

It is a big understatement when I say that I like that velvet has returned this fall! The amazing people at Mollie Makes share my love for this rich fabric and we collaborated this month to create this fancy clutch! You can find the full project in this months Mollie Makes magazine!

Not only did I find the perfect color of velvet at the local fabric market for this project, I also used different sizes and shapes of beads and gems to decorate the front. And even though I usually avoid projects that involve sewing zippers (zippers and I are rarely friendly towards each other) this was actually an easy peasy zipper insert!

It’s party time! You can find my new and very festive themed project in this months Mollie Makes magazine!

A party just really isn’t a party unless there are some festive balloons, and for this DIY project we really went all out! Not only does it include how to make confetti balloons ( so much fun!) But also three different ways to make crepe paper garlands.

My favourite is the flower garland, you can make it in any color that you like and the crepe paper gives it this instant petal look.

FEATURE | Scarf Kimono

Oh, how I love an upcycling DIY! This month I collaborated with the gorgeous Mollie Makes magazine and turned a scarf into a kimono!

I had a lot of fun picking out the right scarf for this project, I wanted it to have a beach vibe filled with colors that scream tropical! The fun thing about the scarf that I found is that it also has tassels which I kept on one side of the kimono creating a playful effect.

And how do you turn a scarf into a summer ready kimono? It is so easy! The sewing part is as basic as it can get. And you can use all kinds of different shapes and sizes scarfs to get a different kimono each time!

Get ready for spring weather with these comfy doodle trainers! I collaborated with the amazing  Mollie Makes magazine and created a very easy tutorial to customise a pair of trainers.

Drawing on trainers turned out to be so easy! And even though I love to draw, I am actually not really a very good sketcher.. So I made a template to create this fun geometric print.  You really do not need any drawing skills for this DIY, just a pair of cheap trainers and markers!

Last Wednesday something very exciting happened: Me and a a few of my projects were live on Dutch tv!

I was asked to show a few upcycling projects at the ‘Koffietijd‘ tv show with a fun theme: upcycling items that you can find at a flea market.

When they asked me, I immediately started brainstorming and came up with a few fun ideas, I jumped on my bike here in Berlin, visited many good places for all of my supplies, jumped on a train to The Netherlands and showed it all on live television!

I have had so much fun doing this and being on television was very scary, but everyone was so friendly and everything turned out exactly has I had hoped.

You can view the episode here:

http://www.koffietijd.nl/uitzendingen/do-it-yourself/

(It’s in Dutch, but you can still get a pretty picture of the tutorials if you don’t understand a word of what I am saying in the video ;)

And as a personal note:

For this blog, I take all of the photos myself, with a few exception like outside outfit posts or video posts. So standing in front of a camera with someone else behind it, and knowing that it was live and it required me to talk.. I cannot even describe how nervous I was when they first asked me. But because the atmosphere at the studio was amazing, and the preparation that I did beforehand went really well, the nerves morphed into this exciting butterfly feeling. And I can only look back on the whole experience as pretty awesome:)

(as a side note, it did take me about 4 hours before I let my sister turn on the tv, so we could watch the episode together. Being on tv was amazing and all, but for some reason I just did not want to look at myself talk ;)

Conclusion:

I think I want to be an actress. Haha, no way, just kidding!  But it did help me to get over my fear of standing in front of the camera. And I love all of the positive feedback on my tutorials, because that was my most important goal.

Speaking of tutorials, one of the projects in the video will be on the blog soon, with a little bit of extra information so you can create it yourself.
So stay tuned!

Spring is definitely in the (Berlin) air and I have been obsessed with colourful outfits ever since the sun came out. I have noticed that a lot people here dress very stylish, but they also mainly wear black. And even though I also love a little black dress, or a nice pair of highwaisted black pants, I do prefer colors.

I secretly hope that everyone is still in their “winterphase” and that the floral pastel coloured dresses could take over any day now.

I am however embracing colors! And I created this sweater DIY together with Mollie Makes Magazines!

It is a very fun sewing DIY that involves restyling a sweater by adding a different panel of fabric. I choose to go with white lace, but really anything goes here!
