DIY | Bleach Drawing on Fabric

I have been wanting to try bleach painting on fabric for a while now, and I finally had the time ( and dress) to do it. I bought this simple black dress for only 4 euros and wanted to spice it up a bit and the cheapest way to do that is by painting with bleach. It’s incredibly easy and fun to do.

Here’s the tutorial:

Before you begin: Be careful with what you’re wearing, unless you want to bleach your entire outfit ;)

**And apologies for all the cat hairs, white cat’s and a black dress just don’t match…
1. Take some chalk and draw your drawing on the fabric.
2. Take the bleach and a brush and place something underneath the fabric. ( the bleach will go trough the fabric, so make sure that there is something between the fabric pieces. I used an old pizza box)
3. Dip the brush in the bleach and start drawing over the chalk drawing.
4. Let the bleach dry. Rinse the fabric and hand wash.

All done!

Ooh, that looks amazing! :) I would never have thought of this. I have a black dress that I never wear and I think a bit of bleach is just what it needs :D

Thank you for sharing this interesting tutorial. Instead of painting my black jeans, I’m going to bleach paint it. XD

One thing to note: if you’re doing this on flimsy fabric like the type of slub t-shirts they sell today, the bleach can actually weaken the fabric and you can get holes in it.

I have an accidental bleach stain on my favourite green gardening t-shirt so I’m going to convert it (hopefully) with more bleach into a flower.

Is the red outlining Fabric paint?
I have never seen thick bleach before. Do you buy that in a Craft store?

The bleach turned the fabric red. I think it depends on the fabric and how the bleach will react to it.
I bought the bleach at my grocery store in the cleaning section (I live in The Netherlands, so I don’t know if this is common in other countries)

The bleach blob on my tee shirt was turned into an interesting flower and I love it. I was ordinary house bleach and water 50/50. Neat bleach may cause the fabric to rot.
